What types of building materials are used for construction

For example, you need to find out the basic properties and qualities of building materials, how they are used in the construction process, what their cost is and whether they are easy to obtain. After all, if something is not taken into account in advance, then in the future it can have a significant impact on the construction site itself. And only after this can you begin to create a project for the desired structure, and subsequently to the construction itself.

The entire construction process consists of general construction, installation, repair and finishing work. Therefore, all those materials and products made from them that are used during these works are referred to as building materials. In modern society, building materials are most often divided into the following types or types: natural materials, artificial materials and finished products.

Natural types of building materials

This type includes those building materials that were created without human intervention, so to speak, of natural origin. Most of them do not require industrial processing, and if they do, it is minimal.

Natural materials are very widely used in construction. The most popular representatives of this category include: soil or earth, sand, clay, stone, various rocks (marble, granite, balsate), crushed stone.

Also natural materials are wood, various lumber, moss, tow and much more. In different regions, the price of construction sand, stone, crushed stone and other materials varies depending on the difficulty of production and delivery to the construction site.

Artificial types of building materials

However, all of the above materials for the construction industry are also interesting because they are ready-made raw materials for the production of new building materials. For example, to make any brick, you simply need to use clay and sand, and for cement you need limestone and gypsum stone.

But it is not enough to simply mix different raw materials into one mixture; some kind of manipulation with it is necessary (drying, melting, roasting, etc.), as a result of which its structure and chemical composition changes. That is, such building materials are obtained artificially - in the process of processing natural materials, which is why they are called artificial.

The most famous representatives of this type of building materials are glass, reinforced concrete, as well as all mortars and mixtures (various mixtures of cement, concrete mortars, putties, mixtures and solutions for plaster). Artificial building materials that contain wood include plywood, natural cork, and fiberboard.

Finished products – used in construction

The main difference between finished products and building materials of natural and artificial origin is that they do not need to be processed before use - mixed with water, compacted, sawed, hewn.

The most common building materials of this type include reinforced concrete products, metal structures, and various plumbing fixtures. This also includes various lumber and wood products. Any roofing (roll, sheet, metal, tile) is also a finished product.
